Eufy X10 Pro Omni is the best robot vacuum for most people. This self-empty robot vacuum and mop checks pretty much all our boxes. The suction power is excellent, pulling all kinds of debris, fluff and hair and fluff out of our tester's carpet (although it did flick larger debris about rather than sucking it up – a problem with almost all robovacs). It's relatively quiet in all but it's very highest vacuum setting, too.
But they’re also some of the largest and bulkiest of the vacuum types, especially compared with the sleeker and lighter stick, handheld, and robotic vacuums. According to our tests, the latter vacuums have improved in performance in recent years, but they’re generally better suited for smaller cleanups.
We'll also look at how the robot tackles the issue of switching between vacuuming and mopping – will it reliably detect floor type, and pick up its mop pad when moving from hard floor onto carpet, for example?
The mopping is also so basic as to be not really worth bothering with; the robovac just drags a wet wipe across your floor. On test it also sometimes struggled to clear thresholds of over 2cm.
That’s the big selling point here; this bot is basically hands-free. Fill the S8 MaxV Ultra’s clean water tank and empty its dirty water once a week and change out the dust bag every couple of months. The robot will take care of the rest.
If you have a lot of those, go for the Dreame X40, with its automatic mop removal. Its vacuuming and object detection are a notch below the Roborock’s, but its mopping is a notch above. The Narwal Freo X Ultra is an even better mop than the Dreame, but its obstacle detection isn’t great, and its vacuuming is merely pretty good.
It’s also noticeably quieter than many models. It gets dinged a Top 3 Automatic Vacuum Cleaners bit in our handling test, which evaluates how easy it is to push, pull, and carry the vacuum, but that’s on a par with other canister vacs we’ve tested. And its carpet cleaning is very good, but not the highest. Still, this model comes from the only vacuum brand we test that gets top scores from our members for both reliability and owner satisfaction.
But a vacuum with at least 120 minutes of runtime (180 is ideal) will clean the whole house in one go. If it takes too long, noisy robots that are constantly running will get shut off by annoyed family members who aren’t about to clean the room for you.
However, it has a smaller bin to make way for a much bigger water reservoir for mopping (350ml). If you like the idea of the Q5 Pro but want better mopping, this is a good option.
Most are equipped with smaller brushes that extend past the circumference of the vacuum, and the purpose of these is to reach dirt that's settled against baseboards or in awkward places.
Great at vacuuming, and good at mopping although can sometimes spread wet spillages. Long battery life and fast charging.
